Restoran Nyonya Makko at Melaka
I must admit that I am a fan of Melaka’s Peranakan food. Yes there are many similar restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. So why go all the way to Melaka? Well firstly Peranakan food (a.k.a. Nyonya food) originates from Melaka (and also Penang and Singapore; according to Wikipedia). For me, it’s a mix of nostalgic and charm to ‘makan’ (eat) Peranakan food and visit Melaka at the same time. Plus I personally feel that Peranakan food there is more authentic. Next stop is a restaurant called Restoran Nyonya Makko (halal). All photos here taken with the Canon Kiss X4 (550D) and Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens (both loaned from my brother).
Front view of the restaurant. As it was the weekend and the place was quite small, there were hoards of tourists (mostly from KL and Singapore) who had to stand outside to wait for a table. Luckily I was there early with my kids and already finished our meal before the tourists arrive!
Their signature fried chicken with kunyit (turmeric powder) is quite good but portion is small. 7/10
Their ‘Beef Rendang’ is so-so only. 5/10
Next on the table was their deep fried squid (calamari) with turmeric powder. The best dish among the four here from this visit. 8/10
Lastly, we had the tofu (beancurd) with minced chiecken. 5/10. Overall, the food is is ok, and some dishes here are above average in taste. I will go back there again to taste other dishes. So please do come back to my page for the updates!
